INNOCENTS AT SEA: A heartwarming tale March 1, 2003 SACO, MAINE Custom Communications, a publishing and web design firm in Saco and Portland, announces the release of its latest book, "Innocents at Sea." The book, first published in 1976 by Readers Digest, is James McCracken's lighthearted memoir of sailing and capsizing from Long Island Sound to the Maine coast. Jim McCracken and his wife, Betty, escaped from corporate New York City, where he worked as a writer for Readers Digest, to Maine in the early 1950s for a summer vacation. There a 15-foot racing dingy introduced them to the world of sailing. The McCrackens went on to buy four sailboats of their own, each with a story, delightfully related with humor in McCracken's straightforward style. Fulfilling her father's dying wish, Carol McCracken republished the book in paperback, adding family photos and a foreword. The new edition has received rave reviews in a number of publications, including Offshore magazine, Down East magazine, Points East magazine, and a number of local newspapers. It can be purchased at bookstores and marine-related shops and marinas in Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island or directly from Custom Communications.
